AI/ML roadmap for experienced software professionals

Hey Everyone,

I am Mukul Agarwal, a senior software engineer at Warner Bros Discovery. I have 6 YOE working on backends of highly distributed, data intensive applications. Currently I am working in the AdTech space.

I come here to seek guidance on how can I learn and start using AI and ML in my daily job. In my quest, I came across the legend Andrew NG and the platform deeplearning.ai.

I was overwhelmed by the number of different courses and didnt know where to start. Here are objectives that I would love to achieve -

  • I want to learn in depth as much as possible but obviously knowing when to pull the plug.
  • I did see many such similar discussions on switching careers from software developer to AI/ML engineer. But I dont think software engineers without AI or ML are going to last long. So its no longer a matter of job switch.
  • I want to learn what all I need to develop AI systems and services at scale by understanding what is happening behind the scenes and not using the black box ideology
  • I want to have that width and breadth of knowledge to identify various problems which I can solve since now I have the tools to do it.
  • I am okay to spend the required time and dont want any shortcuts

As you rightly pointed out, there are several similar discussions on the forum. I’d recommend starting with the Machine Learning Specialization, followed by the Deep Learning Specialization. These will provide you with a strong foundation, especially if you’re looking for an in-depth understanding of the core concepts.

After that, you can explore more specialized programs, such as Generative AI for Software Development, or other courses depending on your interests and career goals.

Thanks for quick response. One more thing I noticed, the same course is present on YT and the platform itself. What difference do they have and how to decide which one to go for.

Also it would be a great help, if we could have a small video on how to navigate our journey through these number of courses where it addresses different paths and roadmaps so that one can choose which to start.

I think this would curtail the number of similar threads and discussions down to one video

Attending the courses on the learning platform gives you access to the programming labs and assignments. YT just has the video lectures.

I’m not aware of any videos regarding learning paths and roadmaps.
