Artificial Neural Networks and the Secrets of the Universe

Hey folks! So, while taking Andrew Ng’s course, I had this super interesting thought probably something that’s been discussed a lot before, but still worth bringing up.
Today, unlike algorithms (like SVM or Decision Trees), neural networks actually figure out which features (X) are important on their own, and they solve complex relationships without us having the slightest clue how they’re doing it.

Now here’s the wild idea: what if this ability keeps improving? Could we, like in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, eventually use ANNs to uncover some of the universe’s deepest mysteries that current technology just can’t explain?
Could we maybe even find a theory of everything?

I want you to go all speculative with this throw logic out the window if you need to. Just let your imagination run with it.

The program that computes The Ultimate Question to which the answer is “42” will take an infinite amount of time to complete - and will consume an entire universe of really hot tea.
