Yes, that is an incorrect rendering. You are reporting this about the DLAI LP version of the course and I have verified that it is wrong (exactly as you showed). I also checked on the Coursera version and interestingly it shows correctly there:

Interesting. It looks like that the DLAI LP renders it as markdown syntax because in markdown, we wrap words in asterisks for italics.
