The graders can get overloaded sometimes, so it’s always worth just waiting half an hour and trying again. There have also been some serious issues on AWS over the last few days, but I think those are cleared up now. All of Coursera runs on AWS, I’m pretty sure …

One other point perhaps worth mentioning is that you can always optimize your chances for good response times from the grader by doing this before submitting:

Kernel -> Restart and Clear Output
Save

The point is that the grader doesn’t look at your generated output, so including that extra data just slows everything down. The grader just needs to load your code and call your functions.
