Hello From Harper, Maryland Liberia

Hello,

I’m typing from my University Campus, William V.S. Tubman University. It’s 2026 and this afternoon we have a few hours of electricity. It may go at any time and I wonder how will AI work given the limited resources on earth to power datacenters.

If it is to sustain itself, one of the first thing it needs to do is to event new physics (nuclear fusion ?) or new transport mean to tap extra-terrestrial ressources, or to improve its efficiency ? photocomputing ?

Happy to chat around.

Welcome to the community.

It is a big challenge to have enough power to run all this AI infrastructure.

Personally, I think nuclear fusion may not ever be practical. An extremely fail-safe nuclear fission power source, that’s much more feasible in the short-term.

There are lots of potential energy sources - many are significantly difficult to deploy responsibly.
