You search for friends living there,
Will you be able to find out the two friends who are closest by location to you among all your friends across the world?

That would only be likely true if you are at the center of US and you have at least 2 friends in a near by continental (main land) US (picture A) (even it is still not clear if the friend in Mexico is further from you than friend in Arizona).
But if you are visiting South Texas and you have one friend that is living in Mexico near border, your nearest friend would not be located in US. (picture B)
I just wanted to say that the question is not fully understandable. Not clear formulation of a problem
