Just an Introduction

Hello, this is Mike from Indianapolis USA. I have an IT background programming in COBOL, ADABAS, and NATURAL in the distant past. Struggled with many circumstances like downsizing, contract ends, etc., but decided 2 years ago I wanted to get back to IT or at least keep learning about it. Working full time in Customer Service the past 7 years. Taking the Deep Learning Specialization, very challenging but fun. Connect to me if you wish.

Hi, @Mike3763 !

Welcome to this community! I encourage you to always keep learning, especially in this field. It really pays off, talking from experience, and I agree with you: is really fun

@alvaroramajo Thank you Sir for the encouragement! It is never too late to stop learning I agree. I am 63 going to 64 years in the Fall of this year. My mind does not feel this age. But it is true. I have had a lot of ups and downs in my life as far as keeping steady employment due to the economy, downsizing, and rapid technology change. But I must keep learning as you said. I have been working in Customer Service the past 7 years for Lowe’s Home Improvement. It is a good company. In America, the job market considers you retirement age at 65. I would like to transition to AI/ML or Data Analytics, If I cannot get that from employment, maybe I can do it as my own consulting or freelance. Things are changing quickly, and Customer Service jobs will be lost in the coming years, as AI will be able to handle many of the routine things I do now, such as changing delivery appointments, giving in depth order status, etc. I will never stop learning, and what would I do if I were retired? The only way I will stop working/learning is if I become too sick to do those things. Thanks for answering!
