Padding and Striding


As mentioned padding is done to preserve the dimensions and also give more weights to corner pixels of an image. Then how is striding useful? It decreases the output dimensions more and pixel weightage or loss is also more

Thank you for the interactive webpage reference. But, I still dont understand why we use stride when it extracts limited features

Since filter is smaller than the input image, how else are you supposed to get a compressed representation of the entire image without using stride?


Smaller filters can also be convolved with larger image is my understanding. As far as compressed image is the requirement, then I do agree with your point. I was looking for such use case of using stride only in general. Thanks!
