Hello everyone. I am currently a second-year AI student at a university. In recent machine learning lectures, I learned about some formulas for linear regression, logistic regression, and related concepts, but they seem quite different from what I learned in Professor Andrew’s course. Could anyone help me understand them better?
This is a brief summary of my questions about the knowledge covered in the last two lessons. I apologize for the somewhat brief and confusing summary, but since the lecture slides provided to me were written in Vietnamese, I thought that some people might not be able to read them.
There are lots of different notations used for machine learning equations. There is very little standardization.
For example \beta_0 and \beta_1 are often referred to as ‘b’ and ‘w’.
The “hat” notation typically means that it is a predicted value from the model. So y_hat is a prediction, but ‘y’ itself is the data label. The difference between y_hat and y is the error in that prediction.
Sorry, but I do not recognize several of the other equations from your PDF file.
I have quoted some of the key formulas in the lecture slide because they were written in Vietnamese. If possible, I can also provide you with the lecture link and related documents.
Hello. I apologize for the late reply; my phone often receives notifications late. On the first page, it seems the formulas have only been changed in terms of symbols and there don’t seem to be many differences, and I understand them. The problem lies with the extended formulas from the second page onwards; I’m unclear about their meaning and how to use them. Could you please explain?
No problem with the delay at all. It took a little longer than expected to work on this response but now I have to leave for another commitment, so I will get back to you this evening with a plan of how you and I can work together for the rest of your questions.
You ask the Google AI Mode for some explanation. You will need to have some names to ask the right questions, although I can tell you that SE stands for “Standard Error”, you can instead just “upload image” and ask it to tell you what it is:
Take your lecture videos/slides/notes as the source of fact and try to make sense of them with the Google AI Mode’s response(s).
Either -
share your understanding and we discuss it, or
move on to the next question if you are already satisfied
If you share your understanding, I will share my feedback and suggestions. I won’t be the one who gives you the explanation, but I hope you can be the one who formulates it out.
@C_ng_D, let’s make the most of the free Google AI Mode and I believe it is going to improve your learning efficiency by being available to you 24/7. However, always prioritize your lecture videos/slides as the source of truth and only treat the chatbot’s response as the catalyst that enhances the learning storm in your brain.
These chatbot tools are improving everyday, and let’s use them.
