Dear Chris,
Thank you for the quick reply.
I am afraid the link to contact Coursera does not work. As course organizer I would like to ask you to contact Coursera on this issue. In my view, and being a technical issue, this is something the organizers should work on and provide a solution to the participants.
Like other colleagues my deadline is sunday evening so I am guessing I will not have feedback from Coursera up to that time.
Looking forward your support on this matter.
Best regards.
For general background (from a community member - I’m not DLAI staff):
There are two types of deadline (well maybe three):
Coursera’s weekly deadlines. These are really more like reminders, and can simply be ignored. Eventually you will get a popup banner to extend your enrollment.
The date when your course subscription expires. These cannot be extended in normal circumstances, unless you pay for an additional month (if you’re on that plan).
Deadlines imposed by factors beyond Coursera’s domain (i.e. if you’re attending a Coursera course as part of some other curriculum).
Note that DLAI technical staff typically does not work on the weekends, because all of their paid courses are delivered through the Coursera platform. Coursera has their own tech support.
2 - If you can’t find your topic using the search tool, then try logging in to your Cousera account, and see if a “Chat” icon is available in the lower right corner of the page. Sometimes it is available, sometimes not.
Hi Afonso! Sorry there might have been a stray character in my initial reply. Fixed now and you can also access it here. Yes we’ll also escalate this with our partners in Coursera but they’re on a different department from Learner Support (which is where the link points to). I’m also not sure how this will be handled yet. We might need to wait till Monday, US Pacific Time. For now, I think you can get a quicker response from a Learner Support agent who can look into your account during chat and see what’s possible. That’s something we don’t have access to. We can also add the result of your conversation as a data point when we bring this up with our partners. Nonetheless, will inform you once I get updates. For now, I think you can pause your subscription so you don’t get charged for the next month while the fix is ongoing. Again, apologies for this experience. Rest assured that the team is working to resolve this as soon as possible.
Thank you for the new link and for the extra info.
I don’t have a subscription, I selected a course, pay it and then got a timeline to finish it. So what I am expecting from Coursera and the organization is to receive some kind of formal information stating when I will be able to access a working version of the last of the item from the course (in this case the 3rd lab) and how much extra time I will have to finish it.
Best
Afonso
“Thank you for reaching out. I understand that a bug in the “Generative AI with Large Language Models” course is preventing you from completing it before the deadline. You can reset your course deadlines if you miss two assessment deadlines in a row or miss an assessment deadline by two weeks. To do this, go to the Grades page of your course and click the “Reset deadlines” option. This will switch you to a new schedule with updated deadlines, and you can use this option as many times as needed.”
Also:
“Thank you for your follow-up question. If you miss an assessment due to the bug, it will not impact your ability to earn a Course Certificate as long as you complete all your work. Missed deadlines generally do not affect your grade in most courses. You can still submit your assignments and earn your certificate once the issue is resolved.”
That said. Do you guys have an estimation on when the bug will be fixed?
Coursera Bot answered my question differently: Hi jianxia,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing a ReadTimeoutError in Lab 3 of the Generative AI with Large Language Models course. Since the development team is already working on fixing the issue, I understand your concern about the approaching deadline.
Regarding your request for an extension, I recommend checking the course’s discussion forums or reaching out to your course instructor to see if an extension can be granted due to the technical difficulties. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate information and assistance.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reply to this email.
