for this particular slide, located below, I am confused how vj_u fits into the equation to find similar movies to movie i. Why does the equation not have vj_u in there but it has vm_i?

The equation is about finding the similarity of two movies, so it is just comparing between two movies, and so there is no need to get an user involved.
