NLP course Errors
Hi Younes!

I’m taking your NLP course number 2 in the specialization, and I found error in the test in week 1.

This statement is the converse.

The explanation given is converse to the correct explanation, and checking this box is correct.

There is nothing in question 7 stating that the characters are the same.

There is no discussion board I can see on the course to mention this so I’m reaching out here.

to learners please note that the explanation given by the moderator is incorrect

Im going to simplify this as much as possible because no one actually read my proof.

The answer given by the quiz when you click the box is backwards.

If you simply look at the levenshtein distance formula, and think about it it should be clear, that if you do not replace anything there is no rep_value,

if you do replace something there a rep_value

if you can’t understand that, someone else needs to look at this question

the moderators reply:
" the option you selected is actually explaining the same thing. for d[(i-1), (j-1)] + rep_cost is only valid when the source and target letter are same, which in this case is not same.

Hence incorrect."

this is false, it is simply repeating the false answer in the quiz. which is backwards,

nothing to replace, then no rep_value

have to replace? include the rep_value

I really hope this is simple enough for you to follow now

Cheers!

because the question mentions the distance matrix for two words is of same size and matrix size is n

the option you chose will not be applicable as it clearly mention min d[(i-1, j)]

@unicronTransform

the option you selected is actually explaining the same thing. for d[(i-1), (j-1)] + rep_cost is only valid when the source and target letter are same, which in this case is not same.

Hence incorrect.

rather than looking problem in others look yourself.

you are probably looking the answer from the point of generality, at which the option you selected might look correct.

but the trick in the options given is to remove any option which do not satisfy all the conditions mentioned in the question.

please don’t send multiple dms. you can respond on this thread.

Also I am not repeating my answer again and again but trying to show how the question was framed and how the answer was framed for a learner to select the right option.

@lucas.coutinho

can you please look into this quiz options as it seemed to have caused confusion by learners. If the options need to be updated, do look into the learner’s query.

I cant post here, you deleted it

I sent you both PM with the corrections please have a look thanks

there is nothing in the question to indicate the response you gave

nothing says the entry’s are the same value, ie source and target letter are the same letter

so checking the box is correct

further the error message given, is incorrect even if the question stated that the source and target letter were the same, it has the logic reversed for those cases, as per the levenshtein distance formula ( and also by common sense, because cost = 0 when there the same, or it has a value otherwise)

You don’t need to send me multiple dms anymore. I have tagged the learning technologist of the course, to look at your explanation, and discuss with the staff if any update is done. he will inform you.

I only deleted images which grades your work as it is against community guidelines.

your other comments are deleted by you as you can see deleted by author.

So kindly wait for his response.

Hey all,

I was OOO, sorry for the late response. I’m looking into it right now.

thanks for looking at this,

also it seems I am no longer enrolled in the course. Can someone help me wit this? It says I am paid subscriber, but when going to the course it says enroll, then it switches back and forth from enroll, to go to course, but when I get in the course my previous progress is gone.
