Grading Failed in C1_W4_Assignment

Yes, it turns out that you have deleted a bunch of material from the notebook, so it is exactly the second point that I made above. Here is what the first graded cell looks like in a clean version of the notebook:

# UNQ_C1 (UNIQUE CELL IDENTIFIER, DO NOT EDIT)
def get_matrices(en_fr, french_vecs, english_vecs):
    """
    Creates matrices of word embeddings for English and French words that are mapped to each other.

    Inputs:
        en_fr: Dictionary mapping English words to French words.
        french_vecs: Dictionary of French word embeddings.
        english_vecs: Dictionary of English word embeddings.

    Outputs:
        X: Matrix with each row being the embedding of an English word. Shape is (number_of_words, embedding_size).
        Y: Matrix with each row being the embedding of the corresponding French word. Shape matches X.

    Note:
        This function does not compute or return a projection matrix.
    """

    ### START CODE HERE ###

    # X_l and Y_l are lists of the english and french word embeddings
    X_l = list()
    Y_l = list()

    # get the english words (the keys in the dictionary) and store in a set()
    english_set = None

Now here’s what it looks like in your notebook:

def get_matrices(en_fr, french_vecs, english_vecs):
    """
    Creates matrices of word embeddings for English and French words that are mapped to each other.
    """
    X_l = list()
    Y_l = list()

You have stripped out all the comments that form the “docstring”. There is no real harm in doing that, but what is the point? The real mistake is that you removed this comment line:

# UNQ_C1 (UNIQUE CELL IDENTIFIER, DO NOT EDIT)

That is also a comment, so you might think it doesn’t matter, but it turns out that the grader depends on it. Notice that they said “DO NOT EDIT” there. So you were warned. :laughing:

My suggestion would be that you start over again with a clean notebook and then carefully just “copy/paste” over only the actual code you wrote in the “YOUR CODE HERE” sections.

Then give it another try to submit to the grader and let us know what results you get from that.

Just rename the current notebook to save your actual code and then follow the procedure here to get the clean copy to use as the new solution.
