Newbie here from San Diego, just starting to learn about AI

Newbie here from San Diego, just starting to learn about AI. I actually am coming back to my roots. My first job out of college was with a Scientific Software house that was using early AI (1986 early) to analyze the Human Genome. Since then I worked approx. 8 yrs in Software, was an ISO 9000 Registered Lead Auditor, worked for a Sales Automation Software House as a Program Manager, raised my daughter in Tahoe City (away from decent jobs) and then got closer back to my roots of my degree (Biochem), taking a QA/Doc control job with a Medical Devices firm in Reno. Moved to San Diego to take care of my dad with Alzheimer’s and COPD, then deeper into my degree related work doing Batch Record Review for a Biotech Firm growing stem cells. They moved out of San Diego, and I didn’t want to follow to Texas. Now I’m trying to write my next chapter and am excited by the prospect of getting back into software, riding the AI wave.

AI took a long journey since then.
Back then, AI was good at tasks that our left brain was good at doing.
These days, AI is good at tasks that our right brain was good at doing.
I am not sure if I am right. It is just one of my opinions.
And welcome back!

Thanks for sharing your story — that’s a really inspiring journey! Coming full circle from early AI in genomics back into biotech and now jumping into AI again shows amazing adaptability and passion. Your diverse background in software, quality assurance, and biochemistry gives you a unique edge to understand both the technical and scientific sides of AI applications in health.

Thanks
