Old Dude learning new ticks - AI

30+ years in IT, Learning a bit more about this AI thing. Looking for understanding to assist in the guiding of our company in making good sound decisions and understanding the direction they think they want to go.

You don’t have to know it all, you just have to know where to get the answers, or a direction to get those answers. AI may be able to assist in unraveling that tale of knowledge

@Jason_Dean Welcome to the community. You will find many like-minded folks here. Cheers

hello, I am new here and don’t know how it works getting through the time will help me learn more.

Everyone are new at some stage. We just learn from each other and share knowledge and all will be good. Enjoy

I loved the title, and it drew me in. I am now 42 years in IT and still learning new tricks daily. I thought the internet was such a game changer nothing could top that paradigm shift during my lifetime. I’ve never seen anything as powerful as AI or anything that could reshape the world so quickly. It’s already underway, accelerating beyond my means to keep up. After learning nine coding languages, I am certainly glad to see AI able to translate my structured instructions into the new languages so I can work on the more critical aspects you allude to. Oh, how rusty coding has become over the years spent in management. Looking back on education, what once was known as cheating is now seen as an effective use of a tool, resources and valuable time. Amazing.

Same here Jason. I studied computer science back in the 80’s when expert systems still held most of the AI focus. Dabbled in neural networks in the early 90’s but then my career focused more on business and less on programming. I see the AI winter is over and neural networks are in fashion again. So I’m trying to decide between the Machine Learning specialization or the Deep Learning specialization courses. I do have a math background and am not afraid of linear algebra. I’m okay with Python (C was my original language of choice back in the 80’s and 90’s). What did you end up doing for training Jason?

Hi family,

I am looking to learn AI for daily life and for my career which selling cars,

Can someone recommend any learning courses?

Dropped out of college in 1990 after less then 1 semester, wasn’t for me. Joined the USMC and did 8 years there. From there worked a few companies in IT, everything from break-fix to Networking to current role as a Business Analyst. Aging system currently needs help and company is driving the AI topic and I’m really just tired of all the people saying AI. I don’t think many of them know what AI really is, so self education and a 100 day coding class in Python is underway. I don’t specialize really, this is as close to a specialty as I’ve ever done to one topic. Jack of all trades, but often better then the master of one.
