Recommendations for the Best AI Laptop: Upgrading from My Old Laptop

Hello everyone,

I’m on the hunt for a new AI laptop that outperforms my current one. I primarily use it for deep learning projects, data analysis, and AI development. My old laptop has served me well, but it’s starting to lag when handling larger datasets and complex models.

I’m looking for recommendations on the best AI laptop currently available, focusing on:

  • Processor: Intel Core Ultra or equivalent
  • RAM: At least 16 GB
  • Graphics: Intel® Arc™ Graphics or a comparable GPU
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD

If anyone has insights on specific models or brands that excel in these areas, please share! I’m eager to hear about your experiences and any recommendations you might have.

Thanks in advance!

I think learning to train on a cloud platform, such as Amazon SageMaker could be a good experience. That’s a trend in the industry I believe. Also, there have been plenty of times in my career that I have to battle with CUDA installation (version mismatches, etc.) and delay my work. So I nowadays wouldn’t tend to go down that route unless absolutely necessary.

I also recently purchased an Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano for $500. Some companies in my field, robotics, are pivoting towards that for inferencing.

+1 for the suggestion above to look at elastic cloud solutions rather than a laptop, any laptop, given the requirements you target. I believe you can buy a respectable volume of cycles on AWS or Collab for the price of one robust local GPU. Let the cloud platform provider worry about scale, software versionitis and hardware obsolescence for you.
