Trouble understanding Week 1 Lab 02: Coffee Roasting

Hello everyone,

I do not have previous knowledge of neural networks besides this course, and I have trouble understanding the coffee roasting lab. It mentions terms that have not yet been covered in lecture videos, such as epochs, and I think it also refers to back propagation, which has also not been covered. How do you recommend I approach studying this lab - should I study these topics on my own or will they be covered in later videos (in this case, I will come back to this lab after watching those)?

Thank you for your help!

It depends on your learning style. If I find something difficult to understand, I prefer to look for information outside and try again. It always helps to use more than one resource for your learning.

You can also use ChatGPT or any other LLMs to answer this question and even demonstrate how it works in any context you want to learn.

I hope this helps!

Thank you - I am wondering if the info in the lab will be covered later in the course or it is not covered at all. I am confused why the lab is using concepts (seems like a big chunk of information) not previously discussed in the lectures, as this has not been the case before in this specialization, so this is the first time I am encountering this issue.

Yes! Week 2 goes a bit more into those concepts.

Those topics are covered later.
For now, the coffee roasting lab is just an example.
