Where is the " Open in Jupyter Notebook”

Where is the “Open in Jupyter Notebook” option that is mentioned in Module 1 to download the Notebook and related file? I didn’t find any option like that. Does anybody know how to download the Jupyter notebook and resources for the lab?

Hi, welcome to the community. Do you have a paid subscription?

@mmesarina , assuming you have access to the assignment, one approach is to go to the “File” menu and choose the “Open” option. Then select the files you want, and choose the “Download” option.

Note: Make sure to shutdown your notebook first (which you can do from this same page) in order for the “Download” option to be displayed when you select your files.

Sorry, I went through this post. I have a paid subscription. My subscription is in the trial period. I do not see any options to download the files. See screenshot. How do I get the option to download the lab files enabled? Please assist. Thanks.

Then it opens a new tab:

You can then click on the checkbox and then download. Just that you can only download each file singly, at the moment.

If you have full access, this is the interface you will see.

@lesly.zerna, can you look into why @mmesarina isn’t seeing the Jupyter notebook options in their display. My understanding from the post below is that they should have full access during the trial period.

Oh wait! I may have made an incorrect assumption. @mmesarina and @Tintin23, can you see the Jupyter menu @lukmanaj shows in the screenshots above?

If so, all is good and as expected. Although, @lesly.zerna maybe it would be helpful to change the wording in the “Set up your local environment” reading @Tintin23 shared above to change the wording from ‘ “Open in Jupyter Notebook" option …’ to something that says specifically to choose the Open option from the Jupyter File menu.

Note:
Jupyter Labs (used on some offerings on the DL.AI Learning Platform) are fundamentally different than the Jupyter Notebooks (that are used for all DL.AI courses on Coursera).

how did you get to the Jupyter notebook? Because facing same issue as the screenshot shown above by Tintin, there’s no link in the instructions to get to the jupyter notebook. I’m on the pro trial mode

The programming notebooks are available in line with the lecture sequence.

@Bagyekum21, this is what it should look like with the Jupyter notebook in the panel on the right as @TMosh describes:

If you don’t see the Jupyter menus in your right-hand panel when you choose M2 Graded Lab, can you please share a screenshot of what you do see?

Note: You might need to adjust the position of the vertical sliders.

Does the jupyter notebook appear in the main view for you in the Module 1 ungraded lab, as shown in in Tintin23’s original screenshot? This is the same question I have also:

  • I have a paid subscription
  • “Set up your local environment…” instructions in the Module 1 optional lab include:
    • ““When you download an ungraded lab to run locally…“
    • “To do this, use the “Open in Jupyter Notebook” option within the course…”

However, where to download and where/how to open in Jupyter notebook cannot be found. For Module 1 ungraded lab, this is the question.

Does this course use Jupyter Labs, or Jupyter Notebook?
It makes a difference in how you access the files.

Are there examples for or instructions how to access each?

In Jupyter Notebooks, there is a File menu, and then an “Open” option.

I do not know how Jupyter Labs work, I have not used it yet.

@et44 ,

Can you go to Module 2 and scroll down and select the M2 Graded Lab that is highlighted in the screenshot I shared above? After you wait for the lab to load in the right panel, do you see the Jupyter menus in the right panel as shown in the screenshot I shared? If not, can you share a screenshot of what you see?

Yes, if I go to Module 2 and select the graded lab, the Jupyter notebook renders in the main view.

Regarding Module 1: I was proceeding from the beginning of the course sequentially and was not yet at Module 2. The instructions for Module 1 lab talk about downloading resources and opening Jupyter notebook - this was the original question. I suppose we can conclude the instructions in Module 1 are not applicable and confusing?

Hello @et44,

I think we can, because I also can’t find the “Open in Jupyter Notebook” button. I think the reading item should be updated, and Wendy had also made a similar point in this previous reply.

All in all, to download, go to the graded lab and open the Jupyter notebook, then follow the steps by Lukman in his previous reply.

Cheers,
Raymond

@rmwkwok - Thank you for your reply. I think the instructions in Module 1 lab text regarding downloading and opening in Jupyter notebook should be removed completely to avoid confusion. Or if there are methods for Module 1 lab that are different from instructions in Module 2, the instructions in Module 1 should be corrected.
