Let’s start with a simple example.
You have a collection of pictures of fruit. Each picture is associated with a label that says what type of fruit it is.
Let’s say you have labeled pictures of apples, bananas, and cherries.
You feed these images and labels into a neural network, and during training, it will create a mathematical model of the patterns of image pixels that are associated with each type of fruit.
Now later, when you want to use this model, you feed in a picture, and the model will tell you the probability that the image matches its model for an apple, banana, or cherry.
Identifying diseases from x-ray images is just an extension of this process.
