Like anything engineering there are some tradeoffs, but yes, that’s what I use.

There is a “batch” method to download all the files associated with an assignment in one shot and that is described here. Saif also showed how to do this in his main posts on this thread (the one I sent you the link to yesterday).
If you want to download individual files, click “File → Open” from the notebook and that gives you a File Explorer view of all the files associated with that notebook. You can find “download” on the menus there. Select a file and then you’ll get “Download” as one of the actions as shown in this screenshot:
