Same here, frustrating @jessica-dlai FYI
Thank you for reporting this issue. I’ll share this issue with our team. But in the meantime, can you check if you used the right type of EC2 instance? it should be t3.nano. If you tried using another type, you won’t be allowed to launch the template.
Yes to both questions, the instance type was nano at the 7.1.5 step of the instructions.
And did you make sure it is t3.nano not t2.nano? Sorry to ask you again but these things could be tricky and I understand the frustration. Our engineering team is looking into that and we’ll get back to you soon.
I likely picked the t2 instead of t3, with t3 the step is working as expected.
Thank you!
@Peter_Litvak I should also be very honest having worked with many students up to this point-- I know it can perhaps be very frustrating at times, but a ‘course problem’ != to ‘student error’, so even for myself it can be at times to find the locus of that compass on balance.
I mean let’s be honest with ourselves here. You could just ‘buy’ Joe Reis’s book and go all DIY. I’ve done that too many times (self-teaching myself PIC MicroChip assembly language for microcontroller movement in a reverse engineering scenario comes to mind)
But, as I think as @jessica-dlai would confirm-- We are trying to ‘usher you into the theatre’. [an entirely different experience]
And I am confident you will have support.
Even the other day I was a bit a bit ‘on the hedge’ about my credentials so, since I see all the time this ad for a BU Data Science Master’s Program online, so I was curious (as they don’t serve details… and then, if you do, they call you, call you…).
But I looked over the syllabus, and then considered the cost of the program ($25k) and realized (not only here-- DLAI has been great, but I believe and have always been a ‘diverse’ learner. Knowledge has no loyalty but the ‘truth’) I’ve already studied these things there, and probably in more detail.
So, please have a bit of patience-- The gist of it is we are all learners (even the presenters) here.
I honestly even think Prof. Ng knows that, as he is too, which is what makes him so cool–
i tried to delete the subnet not authorized. tried to stop the instance. tried logging out. Okay, i may have messed up the instance by trying to delete and starting over. Sorry everybody.
@MildrienIHorton if you’ve got it working-- Then great ! If not, then ask;
There is no harm or shame in that, but I think you are not the only one that is wondering ‘what is happening’ at this point.
I mean they have not just ‘given’ me access to the class and I am trying to work on other things at this time, so I cannot join you.
But don’t feel bad if you found you made a mistake-- this is what is called ‘learning’. From distant memories of when I once lived in China, it is when ‘the hand learns to turn the card of the trick’.
I am afraid I have no further insight.
After selecting the right instance type it worked.
Thanks
@ratmil I see your past reference. Please remember we are all here to learn.
If I did not believe that, I do not think I would waste my time. I probably have better things to do.
@MildrienIHorton Did you try to delete the subnet because you got an issue similar to this one posted here? If so, please check the reply there.
If not, please let us know at what step you got the error. And in this lab and all the labs of this specialization, the subnets are not supposed to be removed because many of the aws resources you will interact with (like servers and databases) need to be launched within a subnet.
thank you for reaching out. i will sow the errors.
subnet is not allowing me to create a t3.nano. i do not have permission to delete previous subnets. do you perhaps have any ideas?
@MildrienIHorton as said, I am not yet enrolled. I will try my best to escalate.
But, if you were not aware before, it might be worthwhile to examine what a mask, or subset mask actually is: https://www.ipxo.com/blog/what-is-subnet-mask/#:~:text=More%20efficient%20routing%20of%20data,How%20subnetting%20works
This gets complicated to a level which is beyond me, and I am certain the course; But it should give you a sense of the complex networked societies we live in.
Realizing perhaps there are still some bugs here-- don’t bang your head against the wall. Think of the question it is asking of you.
Thank you for sharing that! When you create the template, did you make sure to uncheck the box as stated in this step:
after 12 hours on the GUI and asking the forum yes, I unchecked the box. thank you!
your words are encouraging, thank you.
