I happen to be teaching a data subject now and the main reason is:

Histogram for numerical continuous data

Bar chart for categorical or discrete numerical data.

For the mu symbol:

  • On Windows:
    Hold Alt and type 0181 on the numeric keypad → µ

  • On Mac:
    Press Option + m → µ

  1. Go to Insert → Symbol.

  2. In the dialog box, set Font to (normal text) or Arial/Calibri.

  3. Scroll or search for µ (Greek Small Letter Mu).

  4. Click Insert.

  • Type 03BC and then press Alt + X → it turns into µ (in Word, some versions of Excel also support this).
