My name is Bernard Leong, founder and CEO of Dorje AI, focusing on building the next generation ERP systems with event sourcing architecture and generative AI. My past life: I have a PhD in Physics, specializing in cosmology and astrophysics and yes, I calculate tensors by hand, then worked in the Human Genome Project in the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute on Unsupervised Learning to search for mRNA targets in stem cell regulation and exonic splicing and that’s where I learned all my machine learning. I went the startup route and then the corporate route and one of my recent gigs was as the head of AI/ML for ASEAN (Southeast Asia), where I led the GTM for AWS AI/ML services. I am looking for fellow coders who are interested in event-sourcing architecture and generative AI to work on enterprise applications in the financial sector, specifically in accounting. I also teach part-time at the Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore. Look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in jam on AI. I still code as a hobby but not the best in town.
So cool. I too did my PhD in Computational Cosmology, and am currently at Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar. I also founded a company very recently (oyos.ai).
My name is Ronny, and I am currently working on an innovative project called Skin Lens, which leverages artificial intelligence to analyze skin and provide personalized recommendations. I am passionate about this field and truly believe in the potential of technology to enhance our daily lives.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to fill out a short questionnaire to help me refine this project. Your feedback would be invaluable to me.
Nice to meet a fellow astronomer in Singapore - although it would appear that you moved far away from that field by now. I did my studies on very old stars (X-ray binaries) and very young starts (YSO’s) at the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University. After obtaining my Ph.D., I came to Singapore, where I am now working as a teacher.
There seem to be quite a number of (past, present and future) astronomers sprinkled across the Little Red Dot. Although I was hoping to form a bit of a community, I have not met a lot of enthusiasm as yet. Anyway, maybe we bump into each other somewhere (besides online here) and get to discuss Physics, Astronomy, AI/ML or whatever.
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your note. The stars are our destination. For me, mainly in cosmology, looking for experimental signals in the cosmic microwave background and galaxy distributions. The best place for the amateur astronomers is The Astronomical Society of Singapore, and the clubs within the universities (NTU, NUS). I believe that there are other amateurs who organized trips (which I don’t do these days) to the areas near Singapore (like Bintan and Desaru) where there are less light pollution.
Carole Aw has been organising trips for the Institute of Physics Singapore for donkey’s years. They mainly cater to secondary and tertiary students. Sadly, the Ministry of Education has become very picky when it comes to allowing students to join international trips. It has probably been a decade since I last joined them around. Personally I am involved in the organisation of events for students, like the Singapore Astronomy Olympiad.
