Hi, Bina.
I don’t actually know how the mentor selection process works, but I just checked your “Activity” history on Discourse and you’ve never made a single post or response on Discourse other than this one in your time on the courses so far. The whole point of being a mentor is making and replying to Discourse posts. So if you’re trying to convince anyone that you’d be good at that, you’ve so far given precisely zero evidence of your abilities on that score. Also note that we can’t see your grades. And even if we could, just knowing the material is not a guarantee of the communication skills necessary to be good at answering questions in the forums.
You don’t have to have a “mentor” badge in order to answer questions, right? The forums are open to anyone in the courses. If you give a high quality answer to a question, the person who asked the question (and anyone else who sees it) will recognize the quality of the answer regardless of whether you have a mentor badge or not.
I’m glad to hear that you are interested in being a mentor/moderator and we can always use more help. I hope you will give it a try and start participating in the Discourse discussions and people will notice! The Discourse forums keep lots of statistics and I’m guessing that the team at DLAI checks those. You can also see the stats by clicking “Users” under the Discourse menu pulldown next to your avatar in the upper right corner of the frame here.
The other point to make here is that being a mentor is a volunteer position: there is no financial compensation. You have to enjoy discussing the course material with your fellow students and find that rewarding in and of itself.
Best regards,
Paul
