New/separate account needed?

Greetings,

(If topic/question is in wrong category - could moderators please move it to right one?)

I’m following some courses provided by DL via Coursera, which enables me to sign in DL community site with that (Coursera) account.

However, when I try to access some additional courses (for example short courses) on DL website it requires me to sign up. It seems that separate account is needed.

So, my question is - do I need to make new/separate account for DL website? Currently provided account (via Coursera) is not enough? Or do I miss something?

Thanks.

Yes, the short courses are coordinated by DLAI, and that is separate from Coursera.

We need to sign up separate accounts for each of this community, the short courses platform, and cousera, but we can sign up those accounts under the same email address, and using social login makes this process more quiet.

Hi @edin_d,

Could you explain this a little more so that I understand ?

I have the same email for coursera, short courses and the platform. I don’t have this issue.

Why is it asking for you to have a separate account ? Do you see some sort of error ?

Aha, I assumed that. Thanks for reply.

@rmwkwok

  • So account from Coursera is not enough, but I can register new account with same email address as used by Coursera account?
  • This will not violate any terms of conditions?

Thanks for reply.

Well, I access to this community site via Coursera account. But when I try to go from this to DL courses it redirects me to sign in/up page - therefore, I assumes that Coursera account can’t be used to access courses on DL platform?

Hi @edin_d,

Right, your Cousera account is for Cousera, and your DLAI community account is for this DLAI community. When you join a short course, you will need a short course platform account if you have not had one.

We can discuss your concern, but I am in no position to give you any guarantee. Perhaps you can share why you think your choice of email address in account registration would violate which platform’s terms of conditions?

@Mubsi, please correct me if I am wrong or if you have anything to add.

Greetings,

Understood that, with note that I access/authenticate this community site via link from Coursera and therefore, I assume, this account is linked to Coursera account?

For example, when I go to Programs link (in header of this page) and after that to some short course, when I try to enroll it redirects me to sign in/up page. Based on things said above - this is expected behavior?

In short, my concern is: is violation of DL Platform TOS if there is registered account with same email address as it is used for Coursera? Or is it violation on Coursera side? How that case is treated?

Thanks.

Hi @edin_d,

Let me explain it as best as I can, and hopefully I would have answered your concerns along the way.

  • The DeepLearning.AI community (https://community.deeplearning.ai) is a closed community. What I mean by that is, some outsider (i.e someone who is not coming from coursera or our short course platform) cannot simply “sign up”. In order to sign up, one needs to be invited.

  • The item you see on Coursera or in the short courses which directs you to the community is basically an embedded invitation because of which you are able to join the community, as you are essentially accepting the invite for it.

  • The item you see on Coursera or in the short courses has two possible behaviours:

    • (1) If you are not part of the community already, you click it, it basically invites you, auto fill some of the information required by you if you are coming from Coursera (if coming from short courses you add info manually), such as your email, your name, you add in the rest and you are able to have an account. You can access that account with the information you have provided any time you like by accessing the link I shared above.
    • (2) Or, if you are a member already, it will take you directly to the community. Even if you see the option to “accept the invite”, when you click it, since you will have an account already, it will take you to the community.
  • Now, there’s no restriction on the email address you use for any of these platforms. As I mentioned, I have the same email I use for Coursera, community, and the platform. If you are coming from Coursera, it autofills your coursera email as the email you could use for the community. Think of this features as, you don’t have to type out your email.

  • Preferably, and my suggestion would be to use the same email for all three platforms, because in order for the items to redirect you to our community (mentioned in bullet 2 and 3) you would need to have (A) the same email address and (B) you would need to be signed in in the community. Otherwise it could take you to the sign up page again. By having the same email, the redirection becomes smoother.

  • Otherwise, as mentioned above, you can at any time log in the community using the link https://community.deeplearning.ai and the credentials you selected during the sign up phase.

Best,
Mubsi

@Mubsi Thank you for detailed explanation and suggestions.

@TMosh Thanks for answers.
