Short Course Q&A ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers

Hey Everyone,
I’m new here, just a friend of mine told me about this plate form, and I found it amazing. Thanks to @DeepLearning.AI-Team.
I just Completed the course “ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers”, and I really enjoyed it.
But the thing that I Found bad, is that we can’t we the openai APIs free of cost, as a student, at least we have the access to API free of cost, so we can make our projects and practice the prompting techniques.
Do anyone know about it, how to use API free of cost, or anything Similar to this, it would be a great help to me.

Ask yourself, If you make an amazing service, would you offer it to the rest of the world free of cost ?

I believe that they have done a good job releasing chatGPT API for research and for students. is a way to promote scientific research. But, the chatGPT has a huge cost wich i think is the main reason that they don’t release a free of cost API access.

I understand that as a student, the cost of accessing services and APIs can be a burden. However, it’s important to remember that companies need to compensate the talented individuals who dedicate their time and skills to developing these services.

If openai is providing us chatgpt 3.5 free of cost, then why not it’s APIs?

I think that the API has a lot a more features then the chatGPT itself. Wich increases the costs of the services. Some features need some kind of support, maintenance, development and so on.

nothing truly comes for free. OpenAI’s ChatGPT collects valuable training data from user inputs, which contributes to improving the model’s performance and capabilities over time.

You have to understand, nothing ever truly comes for free. They are providing us (DeepLearning.AI) with an exception of using the API for these courses, which you all use for free, but we are compensating them one way or the other. One of which is, we are promoting them as much as they are promoting us by making all these courses with us. There is always a transaction happening.

check the pricing page of OpenAI API
Search “Start for free” section. They state:
Start experimenting with $5 in free credit that can be used during your first 3 months.

Of course you need a credit card to create an API account.
I’m not a student, but I face some problems with money. I found very useful the free credit offer. You can always check your usage and evaluate the consumed tokens.

Maybe you find that you only need a few tokens for your stuff.
I personally consider this offer an opportunity.
