Hi everybody,
I am planning to take the Mathematics for Machine Learning and Data Science Specialization on Coursera. My question is: am I eligible to take this specialization?
I have already completed the Algebra: Elementary to Advanced Specialization on Coursera, so I know basic algebra, including polynomials, functions, and other foundational concepts.
Thanks,
Hussain
Yes..i have been learning machine learning for the past 1 month now…less than a month actually…I have basic ideas about matrices and multivariable calculus… I have coding knowledge already..So far i found it quite easy to understand the fundamental concepts like gradient descent, backpropagation, neural networks, linear, polynomial and logistic regression and decision trees, K nearest neighbours, K means clustering…
If you have some basic math knowledge in calculus and algebra you are good to go…
But if you want to learn to implement your own version of all the above mentioned algorithms rather than simply using the libraries is scikitlearn, pytorch or tensorflow, then you will need to be somewhat good in coding as well…like atleast Data Structures and Algorithms level courses you should have done…
Hope this helps you

You are definitely ready to jump in.
completing a full specialization on algebra gives you a massive head start.
the biggest misconception about this program is that you need to be a calculus expert or a seasoned programmer before you start.
It is actually designed to teach you the math from scratch using machine learning concepts as the examples
So… Since you already understand functions, equations, and basics you have the exact foundation needed to grasp how linear algebra and gradients work.
on the coding side, you only need basic python comfort because the labs are mostly there to help you visualize the math concepts, not to test you on complex software building.
don’t feel the need to do any extra prep or overthink it. Just start with the course and enjoy the process !
