Release date course 3 and lecture notes

Two brief questions regarding the Mathematics for Machine Learning and Data Science Specialization:

  1. Yesterday morning, the starting date of the third course “Probability & Statistics for Machine Learning & Data Science” appeared as March 1. In the afternoon, this changed to February 10. Is a release of the third course before that day likely or not (I completed the first two courses and assumed the entire specialization would lauch at once )?

  2. What is the likely date when the slides (lecture notes) for the courses might be released?

Hi @Bastian_Proxauf!

The launch date of the third course of Math for Machine Learning is scheduled to the end of February, therefore this date is not the correct one. We are already in contact with the responsible team to fix the date.

About the lectures notes we plan to have them released in a couple of weeks!

Thanks,
Lucas

Hi,

I just finished Course 2 on Math for ML and but can’t seem to find a way to access course 3 on Probabilities and Statistics. Is it not released yet? When would it be released?

Thanks,
Saty

Hi @lucas.coutinho,

I just finished Course 2 on Math for ML and but can’t seem to find a way to access course 3 on Probabilities and Statistics.

I can see the date of 22nd March

But I have paid for these 3 courses(whole specialization) to complete these in a month. One month will complete around 5th March. In that case, do I have to make payment again to access the third course if it starts around 22nd March?

I agree. It should be made clear to those who enroll that when they pay for the premium version they will have to wait for the whole course to be released if they want to complete the specialization. Major disservice here.

Can’t agree more…please consider our situation if we paid for the specialisation but can’t finish it within 1 month.

Such bad business practice. I am very disappointed.

Hi @Anshul_Goyal, @bsassoli and @Haohui_Lu

We are sorry that you are feeling disappointed, we usually launch the first two courses of the specialization and later we launch the third one. This should not be a problem with your subscription, because you can pause your subscription and return it once the third course is launched.

If you have any further questions or concerns, we are here to help you.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Lucas

Thanks. That’s a bit helpful.

If we need to pause it, still need to cancel it and subscript it again.
Think about if we can finish all three courses within 1 month, now we need to cancel the subscription and subscript it again (2 months fee).
If you can mention the third course is available at the end of March. I wouldn’t enrolled this course until all the courses are available.

Well, maybe they didn’t know when it was going to be ready. Or they had a schedule and it turned out to take longer than they anticipated. Creating a new online course is exactly analogous to a new software development project: you are creating a bunch of material and it all has to work together and be correct. Even if you have a schedule, sometimes things end up being more complicated than you expect and it takes longer. Have you ever been a developer on a big software project? Did it get completed on time? Mind you, I’m not an employee of DLAI and was not in any way involved in the development of this particular course and do not speak for them of course. But I have lots of experience in the world of software development and managing software projects.

Well, I know it is common and not a big deal. However, we are the students or customers. I don’t really care about the reasons behind that…I just want to learn more, finish it on time, and don’t waste my hard earned money (not a lot, but still count).

Sure, I understand that it is not a good experience as a customer. My point was just that you should not assume malice or malfeasance on their part. There is also a “meta” lesson for you here for future such experiences: if you want to make sure you can complete the whole series of a brand new specialization for one month’s fee, the better idea is to wait until all the courses are available before you start them at all.

Uhh… I was hoping to finish the specialization within the 7 days of free trial (as I finished the two modules in the first two days).

I guess I will still have to pay for the subscription after all since my 7 day trial will expire by April 19th 2023 when the course is released according to Coursera. (I know I can cancel the subscription now, but I don’t think I will be granted the 7 day trial again.)

April?? Really? I thought in March the course would have been available!
Can someone confirm if it is really in April?

As far as we know, the third course will start on 19 April. The start date may or may not change later.

Just happen to finish course 2 and waiting for course 3, @lucas.coutinho are there any updates? Is there no option to pause the subscription? M4ML is a very nice course and I am looking forward to starting course 3.

Any updates on when the course 3 is going to release?

Also I finished the 2 courses and get surprised that I can’t access the course 3.

Is there a final release date or 19 April it’s just approximative?

I have so many days in my current subscription, is there a way to pause the subscription and keep my remaining day when I return to continue?

Thanks
