Retired software engineer Stefaan Remi Meeuws (60) from Belgium wants to become an AI Software Engineer

I’d like to meet online with like-minded, experienced software engineers who are making or who have made the transition to AI software engineer.

I will be looking for (open-source?) projects to contribute to, in any way that I can.

Practical: I am equipped to work remotely. Also willing to relocate, preferably to the U.S. again. I used to live in San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; and other places both in the U.S., the U.K. and Europe.

  • 2 degrees in mechanical engineering (Belgium)
  • BSc computer science 1987, Ostend, Belgium - Immigration attorneys in Delaware hold my diploma’s, references and other qualifications.
  • languages: fluent English, Dutch, Flemish, French
  • Master Developer PenPoint OS (predecessor to Apple’s Newton, iPad)
  • 60 years of age, tons and tons of practical, international experience, some work classified, some work done under NDA, some work in the public domain
  • founder of 101Net, Inc. in San Francisco, CA
  • early retirement around 2002
  • re-activated in 2025 to become AI software engineer, given the anticipated demand for such skilled workers
  • will be busy during 2025 studying (Coursera, other, …)

Hello Stefaan, I’m so glad to know about you and read your intro here. I’ve been thinking that it’s too late for me to jump into the ML & AI. Few months back I started with Python and then gave up. Now, I again motivated myself to study and take it more seriously. In order to do that I started with the Linear Algebra for Machine Learning and Data Science course. I hope that with the help of community I’d be able to keep myself on the track and we’ll succeed together.
