Hi everyone! I’m Tim Carmody, one of the editors of The Batch and Data Points. Excited to meet you all, and curious if you have any questions about how we assemble either newsletter. I’m hoping to start posting for each story/issue (plus Andrew’s letters) and help jumpstart discussion in this forum. But meanwhile, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out our archives and consider subscribing!
- The Batch: weekly newsletter, explores AI news and research in depth
- Data Points: twice/week newsletter, covers AI models, tools, research, and other news in brief
Hope to hear from some of you soon!

hi @tcarmody
Great work, I do read The Batch, can I know how to decide on newsletter topic, is it more related to current news trends related to AI or specifically focused on work in deep.learning.AI
Why haven’t you included a newletter read on team deeplearning.AI history, that would be a great read.
Regards
DP
Hi Deepti! Mostly we look at current AI trends, although we do pick stories that we think will be relevant to our audience, and try to mix up what we cover. For instance, if we’ve covered a subject or company recently, we’re less likely to cover it again. And we try to do different kinds of stories, so every issue might have one new model, one research paper, and then maybe a business or legal story.
A story on DeepLearning.AI’s history is a great idea! It might make for a better letter from Andrew than a news story. The only thing I could see making it difficult is a little reluctance to make the conversation about us. Our motto is learners first, partners second, ourselves last.

Thank you for your response.
My idea behind deeplearning.AI was from the perspective of learner’s point of view only basically covering overview not too internal parts like which was the first course created, what was idea behind it as some of videos at the end each course prof. Andrew always has these interactive sessions with people who have significant contribution in AI and how and what made their journey towards AI.
Also is Deep learning. AI planning to creates its chatgpt like model? as I wanted to the idea behind new data point collection significance !!!

At this point, Data Points (which internally, you might enjoy that we call DP) is just our companion newsletter to The Batch. We started it when we realized that AI news was moving too fast for us to just cover a few stories and publish a week. Now we have sixteen every week, with the occasional repeat (sometimes a Data Points story on Friday becomes a Batch story the next Wednesday).

Thank you Tim, it was great of you to introduce yourself, i always wondered who wrote The Batch, I did notice the pattern of selecting news related to the new courses introduced or the hot topic in the current affairs being a trend in The Batch.
Although, I was hoping DP (not Deepti Prasad ) is being collected more from database point of view too.
Thanks for this post, so I could ask my questions about The Batch.
Regards
DP (Hey I just I realised even Deepti Prasad is also a Data Point )
