My name is Pastor Soto, and I am one of the mentors in the Data Engineering specialization. I created this study group to help you fill the gaps that online interactive environment can bring in this amazing journey!
Please introduce yourself and share something interesting about you. Feel free to ask any questions about the structure of the study group.
Hi. I am Nzima Ghislain. I am from Uganda. I am here to learn(and teach) DE. I speak 5 languages(most of them are african languages), I am a talented vocalist and an algorithmic trader. I have given 3 interesting things instead of one maybe that’s the 4th interesting thing about me. Looking forward to this. Cheers
My name is Kwaku Agyarko-Denteh. I’m making a career change, and my interest is in Data Engineering. Hope this great program will fulfill my aspiration and passion for this emerging and now standalone field. I live in New Jersey, USA, but originally from Ghana.
I am Sarosh from Australia, currently working as Software engineering. Recently was looking to learn some concepts of Data Engineering. Which interest me more to deep dive into data and make it effective pipeline of data.
Saw your post on LinkedIn and looking forward to starting my journey of learning Data Engineering.
Really appreciate your efforts relating to creating a study group, and help in learning.
Hi @Kwaku_Agyarko_Denteh Data Engineering is an exciting field, and can open doors to other fields related to data. Hope you can follow the program and build your way up in your journey!
Hi @Sarosh96 I am happy that you found this course and this study group! Hope we can meet soon… go to the other pages of the study group in which you’ll find interesting stuff on how to succeed!
Hello everyone! My name is Francisco, and I’m from Colombia, South America. I’m excited to be here and looking forward to engaging with all of you. A little bit about me: I’m transitioning from a marketing background to the fields of data science and data analytics, and I’m particularly interested in data engineering. I’m eager to learn from all of you and share my knowledge as well. I wish everyone a great learning experience!
Hi @franciscoagamez Welcome to the study group! What are the thing that make you go into data engineering? Do you had any experience in your life or work?
Hello Francisco! Is always great to find Colombian people, I’m Irina and I am from Colombia too, and I decided to explore this new world for me about data engineering, looking to ground the foundations of a long journey in the AI field. I think that starting from data engineering will help me to better understand the real challenges that companies are facing right now, with the vast amount of data and multiple technology tools in the arena.
I’m excited about this learning experience and I hope to bring some insights and value of my journey.
Hi @irinavelez I am glad you decided to join, data engineering is an exciting field, and from my perspective should be the starting point for any data practitioner, from data scientist to ML-Engineers everyone should understand the principles of DE, and many companies do expect people have some degree of familiarity.
Do you have a data science background or are you transitioning from another field?
Hello, Irina is a pleasure to meet you! For sure it is always great to find people from Colombia. I recently graduated as a data scientist and I’m interested in the Data Engineering field because I feel it lays down all the foundations necessary to work with data at a big scale! Let’s connect by LinkedIn as well. Here is my Profile
Hello @pastorsoto I am glad to be here studying this. Indeed, this is my first approach with data science. I jumped here because my first interest was AI in general, but I didn’t know how to start and I saw that Data Engineering is a foundational part to serve AI, regarding to training machine learning models.
In terms of my background, I come from a large traditional company with extensive IT operations and I have worked closely with Cloud Stacks solutions. I mean, cloud solutions deployed in on premises data centers, primarily because the presence of big players like AWS, GCP and Azure in LATAM used to be minimum 10 years ago. Additionally, large telco companies have evolved its IT infrastructures to meet the growing demand for tech services among corporate customers in LATAM, which have driven the evolution of their business models.
So, I’m on my way to opening new opportunities in my career and engaging with people like you along this journey is invaluable.
Hello @franciscoagamez I just sent you a LinkedIn invitation, I noticed you have extensive experience in this field of data science. I hope we can share some insights during our learning process, as well as I would like to have the opportunity to work in some projects. I’m eager to learn from you and the community, as I’m still a newbie in this area.
Hi everyone, my name is Wyatt, I live in New Jersey. I recently finished a Masters program in data science and want to learn more data engineering, so I have more of a “full stack” skill set. It has been helpful to learn how to think systematically about data systems rather than approaching everything in an ad hoc manner.
I am particularly interested in building cloud-based data pipelines for unstructured data, like images and geospatial data. I just finished the first course in the specialization. What are some good ways for me to engage more with this study group?
For fun facts, I wrote my undergraduate thesis on knot theory, which is a branch of theoretical mathematics that studies the structure of closed loops in 3 and 4 dimensions.
Your background is impressive, so going through this course should be interesting for you. Like you, I also recently finished the first course, and I just started the second one, which focuses on understanding the source systems (data providers).
Hello Everobody !
I am François from Belgium (Europe) I just finished the DE course, I aim to become a specialist in data analysis and engineering, so I think starting as a mentor could be a great step !
I interested in biotecnology and mean transport, I’d contributing to impactful data projects, especially in medical imaging or smart city development.
@pastorsoto thank you for creating this group
Looking forward to connecting with all and hear about your amazing projects
You have an impressive background, from my perspective building the full stack first is the way to go and then you specialize with a general knowledge as background, this will help you to understand the spectrum on everything is available and the things you are good at.
I hope we can connect soon, check the entries from the DE group as it has a lot of stuff that can help to master this path!
Hi @francois_adam I am happy that you join! I love your willing to learn and share, being a mentor is really one of the best way to make a meaningful impact in people and in your knowledge, it will help you to fill gaps and have a deeper understanding
