You have reached your specified API usage limits

In the Chatbot Example section, step #13, I got the following error which happened on the first execution (i.e. I wasn’t running a bunch of examples).

Error: Error code: 400 - {‘type’: ‘error’, ‘error’: {‘type’: ‘invalid_request_error’, ‘message’: ‘You have reached your specified API usage limits. You will regain access on 2025-10-01 at 00:00 UTC.’}, ‘request_id’: ‘req_011CTVXbxFMsiX22NpF58a2H’}

When I tried again it worked, but then when passing in the IDs as shown in the video, I get the error again. Just curious if this is something that I can fix or is it something more related to the underlying tutorial setup?

I have the same issue on the lesson “Create an MCP client“.

Query: hi
Error: Error code: 400 - {‘type’: ‘error’, ‘error’: {‘type’: ‘invalid_request_error’, ‘message’: ‘You have reached your specified API usage limits. You will regain access on 2025-10-01 at 00:00 UTC.’}, ‘request_id’: ‘req_011CTYj6AtStHBfM5HeRGdT7’}

this looks like api related issue, did you check if the metadata mentions usuage limit, the error is basically stating api limit usuage for this month is used up and now you can use only next month.

Doesn’t make sense. It happened on the first API call. It’s the first class I’ve taken in a couple of months.

are you using a company id is or personal id?

Just a personal account

did you try different browser and clearing the cache and browser history?

@Mubsi can you please have a look on this issue.

Hi @stainsb,

I’m going to DM you regarding this.

I’m getting a similar error (Error: Error code: 429 - {‘error’: {‘message’: ‘exceeded quota for this month’}}) on MCP: Build Rich-Context AI Apps with Anthropic - DeepLearning.AI
I tried switching browser and clearing cache/browser history, but the error persisted.
When I switched browser and cleared cache/browser history and opened the MCP: Build Rich-Context AI Apps with Anthropic - DeepLearning.AI the notebook cell still showed the terminal with the exceeded quota error.

What’s the solution to being able to run notebooks without this error?

hi @GoodVision

Error code 429 indicates “Too many requests”” error is an HTTP status code indicating a user or application has sent too many requests to a server within a given timeframe, resulting in temporary rate-limiting to prevent server overload.

To fix it, wait for the designated Retry-After time, implement exponential backoff, or check API/plugin limits.

How to find the wait time
Instead of guessing, you should check the HTTP response headers for a Retry-After value.

When you receive an HTTP 429 error from a server (or MCP), the waiting period is specified in the Retry-After header response of the error. Notice this in topic creator error log :backhand_index_pointing_down:t2:

It clearly mentions when one can try again, when they encounter error code 429. So kindly check your error code log information you encountered and know when you can try again :slightly_smiling_face:.

Also just to be sure when you try again, after knowing the Retry-After wait time, clear your cache and browsing history, and then login with id, and launch the assignment notebook from classroom page, just to make sure you are covered from every aspect when you try again.

Regards

Hi @stainsb
as @Deepti_Prasad stated:

Also, take into account that sonnet-3.6 will be deprecated. We’re updating the sonnet model.
