A career with GenAI?

I am trying to break into GenAI but unsure where to find a job in this field. I currently work as a freelancer for an ecommerce company creating dashboards, helping with random ad-hoc tasks such as creating analysis about whatever, sometimes with just Google Sheets, sometimes with creating a Python script. I have also done some financial reporting automation with Python, but I am not a developer.

I have studied quite a few basic courses here and I’m currently studying the new crewAI course (practical Multi AI Agents), I have created some high quality customGPTs, I know about prompting and now I am building my first simple Flask app to get some Agents available to other people, and to showcase my skills. I am very eager and willing to learn.

But when I go to LinkedIn and search for jobs in Europe there are only very few GenAI jobs available and I am not that great about promoting myself, although I have finally managed to write a couple of LinkedIn articles about this stuff.

I guess my question is: How to find a job in this field when there seem to be so few job openings even with all the hubbub? What kinds of projects might be good to a) show my skills and b) bring a bit of money in while learning.

Any other tips are of course more than welcome as well

Many thanks,
Ville

I am just using this course as a spring board into learning what is AI and that is what it is all about.

ok…
Also, this might not be the best course for “learning what AI is”, as it is quite specific (If you are talking about the crewAI course)

First, shut up  You are a developer. You may not yet be a super advanced developer, but with what you say, you are a developer. I would say you are focused on developing applications of generative AI, or generative AI applications. GenAI applications use a lot of prompting knowledge, and enough Python knowledge to stitch things together and drive the process. In terms of jobs, you might want to focus in an industry area, like finance, marketing, engineering, communications, manufacturing, etc. etc. wherever you have some knowledge and experience already. So you are looking for jobs in that area, where you will apply your skills in developing generative AI applications to support that business area. The job would be in that “department” rather than in IT or something.

Thanks for the comments. I think you are quite spot on, and most likely I should learn and create a portfolio by doing.

Kinda hard to concentrate on something when there are always new things popping up and taking my concentration and time away

Thanks again.
