I am a Translator, and I want to transfer my major to AI in Master but I am ZERO in Programming . Is it important to study programming or machine language to start my Career ?
In my opinion, as a translator, you are referring to a language background, and AI is advancing in natural language processing (NLP) and other areas. As a Master’s student, you will probably need to do some AI research and projects, which means writing scripts to test models, tune parameters, and evaluate results.
So, yes, to move into AI academically and professionally, you will need some technical foundations, and programming is one of them.
Here, in deeplearning.ai, you can find some basic programming courses where you can get some ideas about where and how you need to apply the programming knowledge.
Anyway, I hope you can succeed with your dreams.
Yes.
thank you so much for your response I do appreciate it. One more question. If I take only basic courses in programming and machine language, is that enough to start my dream
Its a good question ![]()
If you take the basic courses in programming and machine language, and because today you can use AI to help you in your journey, I would say that you can go ahead and start your dream, but note that the more you know, the more you can do. So, if in the future you start to face difficulties, think about improving your programming skills.
That is good news, so grateful, I would start my career by taking some courses. ![]()
It’s helpful to have basic programming skills, especially in Python, for working in AI since many tools rely on it. You don’t need to be an expert before your Master’s, but understanding data structures, basic math, and machine learning fundamentals can ease your transition. Your translation background may give you an edge in natural language processing (NLP) later on.
I recommend one learning source to you - Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900). Google it and you will find its URL links. AI-900 teaches you AI and ML (Machine Learning) basics and concepts. See if you like it. If you do, go further to AI Engineer (AI-102). That learning involves some programming. The next one up is Machine Learning Data Scientist Associate (DP-100), which involves more programming. You can look up all three learning contents, glance over them and see if you still like it. If you still do, go ahead. Future is waiting for you to become an AI expert in natural language processing to say the least.
thank you so much I appreciate it I will do what you recommended. ![]()
good news because I really want to start but I am AFRAID somehow, I dont wanna waste time for nothing, thank you ![]()
Yes, programming is important if you want to work in AI, But you dont have to be expert at first.
- The main language used in AI is python, so start by learning basic programs like variables, loops, and functions.
- You need to understand data basics, like tables and numbers.
- If coding feels hard, you can start with no code AI tools to build projects.
- Your translation background is actually useful for language AI and NLP.
that sounds helpful and really sets up my ideas, thank you so much I ll start with Python as a programming language instead of C++ ![]()
