In the Deep Learning Specialization course the C4W4_Assignment_1 and C4W4_Assignment_2 assignments have been failing to submit for the past 20 hours with “An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later”. Also all my work got blitzed on Assignment_2 after one of the failures.
I checked an earlier module in the course and it has submitted correctly. Also reviewed my code for GRADED FUNCTION(s) and there isn’t anything that doesn’t follow the guidelines. Is there any kind of clean up step I need to perform before submitting? Thanks.
The point is that the grader does not need to see your generated output: it only needs to call your functions. Submitting the cleared notebook is faster and gives you the best chance of success. Sometimes there can be syntax in the generated output that confuses the grader. Or you could just be experiencing “bad weather” on the servers. There were some pretty serious issues with AWS a couple of days ago, but I thought they had all cleared up by now …
Well, the other thing to try first would be what Tom suggested. Here’s a thread about how to get a clean copy. Then carefully “copy/paste” over just your code from the “YOUR CODE HERE” sections and then try again with the new notebook.
Also in the interests of going “Full Science” here, I just submitted those two assigments and both were graded successfully for me. So whatever is going on in your case is not a general platform problem …
I have seen the notebook on a private DM thread and it is different than the current version of the Face Recognition assignment in DLS Course 4 Week 4. Keith says that the normal procedure for getting a clean copy does not work, because the UI doesn’t provide the ? button. Apparently the version of the course Keith is accessing is not on Coursera, but on the DLAI platform. I was not aware that DLS had even been ported to that platform, let alone been released into the wild in that form.
@community-team can you please take a look and see if it’s possible for a student to access DLS on the DLAI platform?
I’m facing similar issue. Restart the kernet doesnt fit the issue. I’m on DLAI platform as well (not coursera). Is it a general issue for students running directly on DLAI platform? Thanks
Are you sure you didn’t modify anything outside the “YOUR CODE HERE” sections?
In Keith’s case, I looked at the notebook, and there are some changes outside the user code sections that involve loading a saved model file from a new filename that must have been created in the user’s local environment. We don’t have confirmation from Keith that that is causing the grader problem, but that type of change is a big risk in general.
I didnt notice modifications outside the reserved code sections. How can I get a clean copy of the notebook from DLAI platform where the ? button is missing? Thanks
Paul - I did not make the change in the notebook that you are suggesting, as far as I recall it was in the notebook and I didn’t modify that cell. If there were a way to reset the notebook to the original I’d be happy to start over.
Hi everyone! Sorry for the late reply and thank you for reporting the issue. We are now investigating it and will patch the lab as soon as possible. Will update here.
Hello again. At first glance, looks like there’s a problem with the default files and software version in the lab environment. I’ve forwarded this to the right team and will get back to you when I hear back. In the meantime, please move on first to the next items in the course. I’m sorry for the experience. Rest assured we’ll do our best to resolve this soon.
