Finished Machine Learning Specialization – What else do I need to land a job at big tech companies?

Hello everyone,
I have completed the Machine Learning Specialization and I’m currently finishing the Deep Learning Specialization. I also hold a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
My goal is to work for major tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, or Amazon, but I’m based in Serbia and I’m not sure what the next steps are to become competitive in the global job market.

What additional skills, projects, or certifications would be most valuable? Should I focus on open-source contributions, Kaggle competitions, or building a strong GitHub portfolio?
Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hi , I m from India. I just completed 2/3 of the specialization on 12th ( just before financial aid ends lol).

I usually don’t check but just awhile back was prompted in the 3rd course of this specialization and here I am.

I m a mechanical Engineer, graduated in 2019. My friends did say I would do better in electrical engineering.

Anyway, getting to the answer. Try using the dense function( that u used in building neural netwroks) in your career approach. Throw all ur inputs to all the 3 options (open-source contributions, Kaggle competitions, or building a strong GitHub portfolio) u listed and see which seems to be of more importance to you first (passion or financial stability/job) . Adjust the weights and prioritize accordingly.

You never know how the hidden layers adjust themselves as you proceed. You might end up working in those top companies or start something yourself when you build a good network !

I do hope someone with experience answers your question to do exactly what is needed in the next few steps, that you should ideally take with regards to career prospects.

PS: I didn’t think these courses had taken such a deep toll on me haha, ended up geeking my way into the answer so naturally

Wait a minute I was just finishing Machine learning specialization.. just saw that there is Deep learning specialization too . I wonder if i will ever be decently good at this :joy:

MLS is a Beginner level course.

DLS is Intermediate.

The field moves very quickly - it’s a continual chase to keep up with the changes.

Hmm i see. How many years of experience do you have in this.

Quite a few.
