Dear Mentors for the Deep Learning Specialty course 5,
I am about to start working on course 5 but I’m looking at some of the comments dating back to 2022. From the comments it looks like course 5 is quite formidable. My question is the following. Have there been updates to the course that make it more tractable?
What are your recommendations for doing some studying before starting the course?
Thanks for any advice,
Marc
As Tom says, the changes are not that substantial between 2022 and now. My suggestion would be to just take the course and see how you find it. The first few weeks are well done and at a similar level to DLS C4 (ConvNets). It’s only when Prof Ng gets to the Attention Models section that it feels like the really deep end of the swimming pool. The same material on Sequence Models and Attention Models is also covered in the NLP Specialization courses 3 and 4, but I have not personally taken those. I know that they were created by a different team of instructors and they are specifically viewing it all only from the p.o.v. of NLP, so one possibility would be to try those after completing DLS C5. If you do end up going that route, it would be really useful to hear your feedback on the comparison between DLS C5 and NLP C4. It’s been on my “to do” list for a while now, but I just haven’t mustered the time and attention (pun intended) to “go there” yet.
