A recurring tension I’ve noticed is between two perspectives: on one hand, concerns about AI chatbots potentially replacing human counselors and diminishing the personal, empathetic element of care; on the other, the promising argument that these tools can greatly increase accessibility and affordability, especially in underserved communities.
This raises a larger question: Is there a sustainable way to balance ethical concerns about emotional authenticity with the practical need for scalable mental health solutions? Might hybrid models—where AI supports but does not replace human professionals—offer a middle path?
