AI is a state of mind. Time?

Hello DeepLearning community,

I am Menelaos Gkikas from Greece. I’ve been revising Course 1 in ML Specialization that I took almost 2 years ago, so that I can revise well and be prepared to proceed.

For this reason, my own tactics have guided me to print all materials, lectures as well as labs so that I can study them effectively outside the computer environment in my room office. State of mind on the other hand is what makes me say there’s plenty of applicability potential in the material.

I have structured my thoughts so far on the labs - regression, compute cost, compute gradient, many variables, feature scaling, feature engineering, etc - and I can definitely say that giving ourselves enough time to study as well as enough time with notes and labs is what makes the difference.

It’s true like the time when we used to study calculus in school, that at the exact timing of building foundations, if you hurry or if you multi-task illogically outcomes won’t be favorable. When I used to study calculus for the first time I devoted enormous amount of time in revisions, practicing and restudying, for this is the sole way.

That’s why I ask:

Does the Coursera platform allow to complete weeks and classes beyond the written time limits of 3 weeks for course 1, 4 weeks for course 2 and another 3 weeks for course 3? Do I have to ask them instead of you?

To the point, can I shift the time limits on my own convenience, perhaps study the lectures before enrolling and finish at my own pace, even with the cost of paying some extra 50-100 euros? Do I have this option? Does the Coursera platform allow it?

The above questions are highly crucial for the nature of this material is multidimensional and proper state of mind to exploit all utilities and practice potential matters, especially if such things demand much more time than what is initially programmed.

Just for the record, how soon you guys have managed to complete these classes and could you immediately apply the material at your own programs and case studies?

I’m not aware of any time limits on the various courses. When they quote a time, I think they just mean it’s an estimate of how long they think a typical student might require with a certain number of study hours per week (which they typically quote) to complete a given course. You can take the courses at whatever pace works for you with your personal studying methodology and other time commitments. As it sounds like you are already aware, the lectures are available in “audit” mode, which is free. You only need to be paying for the subscription when you are ready to take the quizzes and work the assignments.
