I completed Week 1: Introduction to Data Engineering, but I am unable to proceed to the next week because it is locked. I am auditing the course before I decide if I want to pay for the course and earn a certificate. Why am I unable to view content for Week 2, 3, and 4 while auditing the course?
In most courses on Coursera, I am able to audit the entire course for free. This allows me to run through the contents of the course without paying for it. I do this before deciding whether or not to purchase the course (to earn a certificate). This allows me to assess if the content is too easy or too difficult for me to complete and gives me confidence of success. I’ve done this for numerous courses on Coursera without any issues. Usually, the quizzes and assignments will be locked, but certainly not 3/4 of the entire course.
Sorry, but this is an overall policy change that Coursera implemented just recently. Up until this change “audit” mode allowed you to see only the lectures, but not the assignments, for the entire course. Now what it does is gives you full access, including the assignments, but only to the “first module” of the course, which is typically Week 1.
It’s not something different you did, that’s just “the way it is” now.
This new model replaces our audit experience and gives learners the ability to preview the first module of nearly every course on Coursera for free. This includes full access to key platform features, such as graded assignments and Coursera Coach, when available within the course.
