I was wondering the same thing. I landed here from a Coursera class. But I feel the classes are truly designed for many who"get coding to begin with" or natural at it. In doing more research it is overwhelming because there is so much out there with lots of opinions. IT explains why there is a such a large skill gap. I think companies need to have a bridge with a training camp they hire from.
All ML courses pretty much universally assume that students are already at least minimally competent programmers, and that their goal is to learn some new skills and tools.
