Hello everyone,
Can someone explain to me why this statement isn’t False? “Using the equations for the GRU and LSTM below the Update Gate and Forget Gate in the LSTM play a different role to Γu and 1- Γu.”
I’ve answered False, meaning that “we can see that the Update Gate and Forget Gate in the LSTM play a role similar to Γu and 1- Γu in the GRU.”

Hi Sifal,

I think the point the answer ‘True’ attempts to make is that in the case of an LSTM, Γf does not need to be equal to 1- Γu. In an LSTM, something can be updated in one place while it is not forgotten in another. So the role is not the same or ‘similar’ to Γu and 1- Γu in a GRU, where updating in one place comes with forgetting in another.

thanks for answering, I guess it was about understand ‘not a different role’ to mean ‘an equal role’ and not a ‘similar role’ because there’s a little bit more range in the last. thanks again.
