Background before starting DL

Hi.
What prior knowledge is required for the Deep Learning Specialization? Can someone begin the course with just a background in machine learning specialization ?

Yes, you can take the course as the main knowledge required is Python.

Somewhere on deeplearning.ai I think I read that the Machine Learning Specialization would be a good starting point for DLS.

I think it dependson your background. For me, I hadn’t used maths in a while, so the Linear Algebra course was very useful. I did not do the Machine Learning Specialization prior to it and I can accompany most of the course so far (I am about halfway). Also, knowing Python is important, even if just the basis.
