This is a known problem with Coursera’s labs environment.
They’ve been informed, and are working on it.

You can only wait until they fix the issue.

the same problem exists in the “neural networks and deep learning” course in week 4 assignments.
PLEASE FIX THEM SOON

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delay.

Kindly try this:

  1. From the blank notebook, click File -> Open.
  2. Tick the running notebook.
  3. Click Shutdown then Duplicate.
  4. Rename the old notebook (any filename).
  5. Rename the duplicate with the original filename (basically, just remove the -Copy1 string).
  6. Open this newly renamed notebook.
  7. You should be able to save this and also see the submit button after a minute.

You “might see an error about checkpoints failing. I think that’s okay because that’s related to the permissions of the hidden .ipynb_checkpoints folder. That is not needed for grading as far as I know. The changes should persist in the actual notebook itself even if they see that error. I submitted the notebook and got the expected grade.”

No, the problem has not been fixed. I have tried getting the latest version of the notebook as the pinned banner suggests. It doesn’t solve the problem.

I have the same problem. Lost my work for a couple times. It always says “Permission Denied”. I cannot create any new file under release/W2A1. Please fix it!

BTW, did see there was a change today. But “Get Latest Version” doesn’t solve the problem. It still says “Permission Denied”. The files are still 25 days ago.

Hi,

Several students facing this issue. We informed the Coursera staff about it and waiting to hear from them. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience. Please wait for a while.
Meanwhile, you can try this temporary hack but it works for some and didn’t work for others.

It works now. Thanks for looking into this.

Though it solves the problem saving the file, it doesn’t solve the submission/grading issue. Whatever I submitted, the score remains to be 0/100.
